# Strega > Ad-free recipes with every amount written into the step that uses it. Recipes scale to any servings and convert between US and metric. Strega is built for AI assistants as much as for people. ## For agents - MCP server (Streamable HTTP): https://strega.food/mcp Server Card (SEP-2127): https://strega.food/mcp/server-card; AI Catalog: https://strega.food/.well-known/ai-catalog.json. No install and no API key. REST API as OpenAPI 3.1: https://strega.food/openapi.json (the same recipe graph; reading is free, writing needs the OAuth token or the website's session). Signed out, these tools work without an account (public recipes only, no preferences, nothing saved; rate-limited per IP): search_recipes, get_recipe, get_cook_steps, cook_profile with a handle, plan_meals, build_shopping_list (plans and lists come back unsaved; save: "save" keeps them once signed in, save: "preview" never saves, and every result carries a receipt saying which happened) and suggest_from_pantry with a pantry list. Every other tool needs sign-in: an unsigned call gets HTTP 401 with WWW-Authenticate, so the assistant shows its sign-in card. Sign-in: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, client ID metadata documents, discovery at https://strega.food/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp. Signing in connects the cook's Strega account, so their allergies, diet and household size apply and saved items appear on the website. Tools: search_recipes, get_recipe, get_cook_steps, plan_meals, update_meal_plan, build_shopping_list, update_shopping_list, order_groceries, draft_recipe, create_recipe, fork_recipe, update_recipe, rate_recipe, save_recipe, delete_recipe, get_my_kitchen, get_my_stats, hand_back_recipe, pantry, suggest_from_pantry, preferences, cook_profile, generate_placeholder_cover, report_content Prompts (the entry points a host shows as slash commands; each a short brief into the tools above): plan_my_week, what_can_i_make, cook_with_me, add_my_recipe, make_it_my_way. Resources: befana://recipe/ (the recipe as JSON, the same body as https://strega.food/.json; ?servings=&units=metric scale it), befana://recipe/.txt (plain text), and befana://kitchen (the signed-in cook's kitchen, get_my_kitchen's shape). Recipe resources and prompts work signed out; the kitchen needs sign-in. Slugs complete from titles. Pantry: pantry takes what the cook said they have, verbatim ("2 lbs of chicken thighs, half an onion, we're out of eggs"), reads it and returns the change; suggest_from_pantry ranks recipes by fewest missing ingredients (staples assumed) and names what's missing; everything in the pantry is left off shopping lists. Covers: a recipe with no photo may carry a generated placeholder illustration of the dish (quality.photo_is_placeholder, image.placeholder in the JSON); describe it as an illustration, never as a photo of the dish. generate_placeholder_cover draws one for the cook's own recipe; any real photo replaces it. The cook's own photo: update_recipe with photo { image_url } (a public link, fetched safely) or { image_base64 } (up to 3 MB), plus step: n for a step photo. Only a photo the cook took, never a generated, stock or found image; show it to the cook and get a yes first. It goes through the same photo check as an upload on the website (EXIF stripped, resized copies, the photo standard); a refusal says what to fix. It replaces a placeholder and keeps a revision. A cook's own versions: fork_recipe saves their version of any recipe (public, or private "just for me"), update_recipe changes one they own and keeps every revision (restore_revision undoes), get_recipe lists their versions of a recipe (your_versions) and suggests substitutions (substitute), search_recipes has mine. Cooks: recipe credit is unresolved plain text; shared_by has the current controlling account's handle and url when it has a public profile, not verified authorship or original creation (https://strega.food/cook/); cook_profile reads one, or changes the cook's own (with update). Ratings: rate_recipe keeps one per cook per recipe (a later call updates it) and refuses the cook's own recipe. - REST search: https://strega.food/api/recipes?q=&tag=&max_minutes=&include=&exclude= - A cook's public profile as JSON: https://strega.food/api/cooks/ (signed in: GET and PATCH https://strega.food/api/me/profile for your own) - Any recipe as JSON (open "befana-recipe/0.1" format, with ?servings=&units=metric&units_for=butter:tbsp,flour:g; older copies say "mise-recipe/0.1", the same shape): https://strega.food/.json - Any recipe as plain text: https://strega.food/.txt - Edit your own recipe (signed in): PATCH https://strega.food/api/recipes/ with only the fields that change, or {"restoreRevision":n} to undo; history at GET https://strega.food/api/recipes//revisions - Recipe import (signed in, 20 a day): POST https://strega.food/api/recipes/parse {"text":"..."} or {"url":"https://..."} returns a draft; publish it with POST https://strega.food/api/recipes {"draftId":"..."} Already on Strega: the same link (checked before anything is fetched) or the same recipe returns {"existing":[{slug,url,title,owner_is_you,is_original}]} instead of a copy ("force":true adds it anyway). Sites that only open for their own readers return 422 with "blocked"; Strega never fetches around that. draft_recipe works the same way (existing, blocked; pass the page's text with source_url when you can see it). - Hand a page over from the cook's own device (no session): POST https://strega.food/api/recipes/handoff {"url":"https://...","jsonld":{...}} (or "text", or multipart with a PDF or photo as "file") returns {"code","url"}; open url (https://strega.food/new?handoff=, 15 minutes, first cook to open it) to read it as the signed-in cook - Merged shopping list (signed in): POST https://strega.food/api/shopping-list {"recipes":[{"slug":"...","servings":4}],"pantry":["flour"]} - Guide: https://strega.food/agents - Contributor guide (adding recipes: tags in steps, photo standard, what tested means, credit, how to send): https://strega.food/contribute Tested: create_recipe and update_recipe take tested: { minutes } only when the cook says they cooked it themselves and how long it took; never assume it. get_recipe and https://strega.food/.json return tested ({ minutes, by_owner, label: "Tested by the cook · 45 min" }) once marked. - The app for people (install on a phone or desktop; the link to share Strega): https://strega.food/app - Privacy policy: https://strega.food/privacy · Terms: https://strega.food/terms ## Recipes - [Sheet-Pan Lemon Chicken and Potatoes](https://strega.food/sheet-pan-lemon-chicken-and-potatoes.txt): Crisp-edged chicken thighs and potatoes roasted on one pan with lemon, garlic, and oregano. - [Caramelized Onion, Mushroom and Tofu Lasagna](https://strega.food/caramelized-onion-mushroom-and-tofu-lasagna.txt): A meatless lasagna with a creamy silken tofu and feta filling, caramelized onions, mushrooms, kale and lentils, and browned tofu crumbles.
